Choosing the Right Track Mat Size for Your Project
A practical guide to calculating how many track mats you need based on your access road length, width, and laydown area requirements.

Getting the Right Quantity
Ordering too few mats means gaps in coverage and potential bogging. Ordering too many wastes money. Here is how to get it right.
Our Mat Specifications
Each Coastal Trackmat panel measures:
- 2400mm x 1200mm (2.44m x 1.22m)
- 38kg per panel (two-person lift)
- 60-tonne load rating (static and rolling)
Calculating Access Road Mats
For a straight access road: 1. Measure the total road length in metres 2. Measure the required road width in metres 3. Divide length by 2.44 (mat length) and round up 4. Divide width by 1.22 (mat width) and round up 5. Multiply the two numbers
Example: A 50m long, 4m wide access road:
- Length: 50 / 2.44 = 21 mats along
- Width: 4 / 1.22 = 4 mats across
- Total: 21 x 4 = 84 mats
Calculating Laydown Areas
For rectangular work bays or laydown areas, use the same calculation for each bay and multiply by the number of bays.

Tips for Accurate Estimates
- Add 5-10% buffer for curves, turns, and irregular shapes
- Consider turnaround areas at dead ends
- Account for gate entries where you need wider coverage
- Plan for equipment pads near work zones
